I've worked with people that travel a lot. You should really talk
To a travel agent. They can probably help in a lot of ways and provide a lot
Of useful information. It's their job to make you have a great experience.

I have not been to Budapest, but... oh the stories I could tell you about the adventures that young Navy sailors with money in their pockets get into over in the Pacific theater... Places like Olongapo, Phuket, Bali, South Korea, Melbourne, Perth, Diego Garcia, Mombasa, Hong Kong, Singapore, and more. Honestly I don't think many people who haven't done that could even imagine some of the things that would be described... Hahaha, all true though.

To a travel agent. They can probably help in a lot of ways and provide a lot Of useful information. It's their job to make you have a great experience.

I think that is not bad advice, but asking for ideas elsewhere is actually a good thing to do if you are trying to come up with a vacation plan.

See, most people visiting Spain with an agent is likely to be led to a reduced number of popular options. That is easier for the agents and works for most tourists. However, if you ask around you are very likely to get suggestions an agent would not give you.

This is specially true in old European countries in which every lost village has a 5th Century fortification of Historical significance, and you can probably get a tour for it.

You mean, they went back to the way it used to be. While it may not work so well for the solo flyer, people traveling as a family should be able to buy their seats together, rather than being split up all over the plane. This happened to us a couple years ago on a flight to and from Florida, and it wasn't a great experience at all.

I imagine far too many people traveling as a family complained when their tween daughter had to sit by herself between a couple of fat sweaty men, 10 rows back from her mother (just an example, but fairly similar to what had happened to us), while Dad was also stuck by himself rows away from either of them).

We made the same trip a few weeks ago (volleyball AAU nationals), and I was able to buy 3 seats next to each other both ways. It was much better.

I've only never seen this because every flight I've been on in recent years is 100% capacity, or very close. Sometimes they even ask people for volunteers to check their carry on bags for free due to there not being enough room in the overhead bins for that kind of capacity.

I can't see that at all. No other airline does what Southwest does, as far as intercontinental flights. Hell, even little flights from Milwaukee to Chicago. Seems they invest in a lot of smaller planes to do this, also (737s, 737-800s, etc).

They're not even cheaper than the others, any more.

They definitely are, at least when I compared to the likes of United and Delta. I'm even talking upwards of almost $100 per ticket. It's not even close.

That said, there might be other, smaller companies that I didn't look into that may be cheaper, but I don't trust them if they haven't made a name for themselves by now.

We are spoiled out here. I did a consulting stint in San Diego, and was able

flew SWA from Oakland to San Diego weekly. It was nice knowing they had

That's an easy one. It's called an "activist investor". Basically,
someone who buys a ton of shares and then tries to assert their
influence on the company. Elliott Investment Management owned about a
16% stake in Southwest and they're the ones who pushed to remove the
open seating policy and introducing fees for checked bags.

After the stock price soured, they sold and now have about 9%, after
destroying everything that was good.

The open seating was fine, as long as you weren't last. I usually got a
high A or a low B number because I'd set an alarm to check in right on
time. The bag fees don't affect me since I have a Chase Southwest
Platinum card for collecting air miles, which includes free bags.

Southwest is good for me because they're based at Dallas Love Field
which is about 30 minutes drive away.

Also, just because you pay for a seat, doesn't mean you're going to get
it. Also, if the plane is virtually empty and you are seated next to
another passenger...tough. You're not allowed to move. They also had a
policy forcing overweight passengers to buy a second seat but they
rolled that one back pretty quick.

Southwest is a shell of what it used to be, unfortunately, the flights
are cheap, they fly to a lot of destinations and the airport is
convenient.

Southwest is a shell of what it used to be, unfortunately, the flights are cheap, they fly to a lot of destinations and the airport is convenient.

I was 15 minutes away from the Oakland (CA) airport -- long term parking is a short walk to the terminal instead of a shuttle ride. Convenient, except it seemed like my gate was always the farthest from the ticketing line. :)

After a somewhat rough landing, the pilot told people to be mindful opening the overhead bins when collecting their bags, belongings and what's left of your wits. Bravo, Captain!
